OWNERSHIP

I call this page 'Ownership' because I have already talked about how great it would be to get an Owner's Manual with each baby. So, don't take offense at the terms, and go with the flow and maybe you will find a bit of humour in this article and raising children. After all, like I've said many times before, life is not written in concrete and if we find the joy in living, then we find our Wings!

Having a baby gives you ownership of that precious soul, but that doesn't mean that you have the right to use and abuse that child. Relate it to a a new car: when you have a new car you are very careful what you do to it. You wouldn't dream of drilling holes in the dash to mount something, yet in an old vehicle you just might. And while that child is in your care, you shouldn't dream of destructing or abusing him or her like an old car. If you think you can then you need to go to another section of this site called Abuse. So, for now, let's assume that you are not a child abuser and let's move on.

As to ownership, it's just like owning a vehicle . . . there are many different makes and models, and they all require different maintenance. Look at how they relate to you. You are not just a parent . . . you are a driver, a passenger, a mechanic, a body repairman, a tire salesman, yadi, yadi, yadi, you are all of it. You are what makes that little car who it is and how it negotiates and navigates through life. My goodness, you, the parent are like God! You are supposed to know it all, practice it all, and apply it all! BUT wait . . . how many of you are at that point? Not many, for sure. But do not despair, there is help and you don't have to wait until you are a grandparent to figure it out.

You wouldn't set out on a journey without a roadmap and backup plans for break downs, or congested highways, or knowing the importance of detours would you??? Of course not. If you think you would, then you really need some stern counseling, because to take a trip without thinking things through means you are oblivious to the lives in your hands during that trip. It's okay, because, if you stick with this web site, you will find answers, I guarantee you.

At the end of a trip, you can think of how you have faired and what you have gained. It helps with the next trip. It's all about the journey. Yes, there are so many cute little quips or phrases about the journey, but we need to get dead serious about it. Life is more than a journey. . . it's a process. Sometimes a precarious, dangerous and even deadly process, so you need to start thinking of how to make that process, that journey, a life-giving experience for your child and you.
