NAMASTE

The term ‘Namaste' is a respectful greeting, both as a welcome and to say good-bye. This term was originally used by spiritual seekers in India and Nepal, and addresses the inner man, whereas western greetings focus attention to the outer person.

Below are several translations for ‘Namaste'. They are all wonderful:

"I honor the place in you in which the entire universe dwells. I honor the place in you which is of Love, of Truth, of Light and of Peace. When you are in that place in you and I am in that place in me, We are One. "

"The God in me greets and honors the God in you."

"I salute the Divinity in you."

"I salute the God within You."

"My soul bows to your soul."

"The Great Perfection within me honors the Great Perfection within you."

As you will notice the salutation Namaste fills one with reverence. The first time that you are welcomed or greeted with Namaste you will feel the feelings of respect, acceptance, openness and love called forth in you.

Traditionally, Namaste is said while bringing together both palms of the hands together as in a prayer position and held in front of your heart. Slightly bow your head and shoulders then give the greeting. This shows that your hands are unarmed, that you come in peace, and that you surrender your ego. The hands folded in the prayer position also symbolizes celebration and honor. The left and right hand brought together depict union and centeredness within your being.

In Namaste you pay honor to the sacredness of all, and in this holiness you become still for a moment while meeting the other person on the level of the heart and soul, and the separation between you crumbles into pieces. No longer is there another one – there is only One.

I need to add this here as a fellow Indigo sent it to me to post:

"Cool web site, fellow Indigo!

I wanted to suggest including the phonetic pronunciation of 'Namaste" on it's meaning page, since not everyone actually has heard it said out loud and outside of their own head while reading it in text form over and over. An outside link maybe? http://www.flex.com/~jai/articles/namaste1.html

Peace,
MB"
